Fraud goes unpunished
I spent all day yesterday between the Budget committee and the Budgetary Control committee, the first one dealing with the future budget and the latter with the past. Nobody recognises the contempt with which European taxpayers money is spent. Nobody will recognise there is fraud at any point. Nobody will accept we need to stop further payments to the countries where the majority of the "errors" take place.
But today I had the satisfaction of hearing from a member of the Court of Auditors that a system left open to abuse WILL BE ABUSED!
However I also learned that out of the 49 cases where the Court of Auditors suspected fraud for the year 2008, they only transferred to the European Anti-Fraud Office, TWO CASES!
WHY? Because "they found insufficient evidence of fraud". But didn´t they say fraud requires criminal intent? Didn´t they say this is up to the police and the Courts to determine? So why do they take the initiative to stop investigation on certain cases?
The Commission on the other hand will declare firmly that none of the areas marred with "errors" according to the Auditors has suffered fraud!
Denying the obvious is the only way out for the EU bureaucracy!
