Budget hikes voted through
Yesterday the "second reading" of the 2010 EU budget took place. The first version (first reading) of the budget was debated in October and the European Parliament was asking for a 10% increase on 2009. On that ocassion I spoke against ANY increase to the budget. After that a conciliation meeting took place in November, about which I have already commented in this blog, and was a deplorable exercise of hypocrisy. Yesterday they proposed a 6% increase on 2009. This includes a pay rise for all civil servants and members of the European Parliament. Obscene! And the cost of Lisbon treaty implementation is not yet added. What comtempt for taxpayers!
